History of Gulf Coast Trade Exchange
Bob Crumpton, a graduate of Stetson University, owned and operated the Paint Mart for several years before discovering the business of barter. In 1977, a banker friend of Bob's introduced him to the concept of a trade exchange; they bought a franchise, but after the first year when their franchiser went defunct; they became an independent barter organization which turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
During the first two years, Bob continued to manage the paint store as well as the barter business. As the trade organization grew, he became involved with GCTE on a full time basis. His wife, Fran, a high school English teacher, was also involved with the company. After the untimely death of Bob in 1998, Fran assumed the role of President. Under her leadership GCTE has continued to prosper; one hundred new businesses were added last year.
Fran has been elected to the Board of Directors for the National Association of Trade Exchanges and was selected as one of twelve "Women to Watch" by the Northwest Florida Women's Yellow Pages.
Fran's goal for the future is to fulfill the mission of expanding and developing the "Gulf Coast" for GCTE.
